The Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Antonella Mularoni will be in Davos (Switzerland) tomorrow to participate, upon invitation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Singapore, Gorge Yeo, in a meeting of small and medium States organised by Singapore. This meeting will take place during the Summit of the World Economic Forum, in which the great powers participate.
Participants in the Davos Summit, which is certainly the most important meeting of the world economic elite, usually discuss the strategies of the international financial system. However, small and medium States, although their number is considerably higher than that of the great economic powers, have little voice in this system.
Through this parallel Summit, Singapore, a small but economically and financially relevant Asian State, is trying to give the great powers a signal that all participating Countries wish to be more involved in decision making processes, both economically and politically. Indeed, this approach is being adopted also by the United Nations, where a greater coordination among small and medium States could favour the democratisation process of this international organisation.
After tomorrows meeting in Davos, Secretary of State Mularoni will leave to Strasbourg for some institutional commitments and to participate, as former Judge, in the Official Opening of the Judicial Year of the European Court of Human Rights.
