On 25 February 2010, the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Antonella Mularoni, participated in the fourth edition of the San Marino UNICEF Awards Dinner in New York. This event has been organised by the Permanent Representation of the Republic of San Marino to the United Nations, in collaboration with UNICEF and with the support of the Alexander Bodini Foundation, in order to reward the commitment of three non governmental Organisations managed by young people from Honduras, Azerbaijan and Kenya.
The event was attended by the Secretary General of the United Nations, H.E. Ban Ki-moon, the President of the UN General Assembly , H.E. Dr. Ali Abdussalam Treki and about 140 Ambassadors, among whom the representatives of the United States of America, India, Egypt and Brazil. On behalf of the three NGOs, the diplomatic representatives of the respective Countries received the award.
UNICEF Executive Director, Ann Veneman, received an award destined to local UNICEF Offices, which have selected the finalist NGOs.
During her speech, Secretary of State Mularoni recalled the importance of humanitarian activities carried out by UNICEF, which translate into the implementation of projects aimed at combating diseases, malnutrition and poverty in many Countries all over the world, as well as its essential contribution for the promotion and protection of childrens rights and aspirations.
The Secretary of State also thanked Ann Veneman for the excellent contribution and the admirable activities carried out during her mandate as UNICEF Executive Director, which will soon come to an end.
The President of the UN General Assembly and the UN Secretary General also took the floor during the ceremony to congratulate Secretary of State Mularoni and Ambassador Daniele Bodini, Permanent Representative of the Republic of San Marino to the United Nations, on the organisation of the event and to underline the fruitful participation of San Marino in the activities of the United Nations.
During the evening, particularly touching was the projection of three videos prepared by the young of the NGOs of Nigeria, Fiji and India, winners of last years prizes, with which they expressed their thanks to the Republic of San Marino.
During her speech, UNICEF Executive Director tanked Secretary of State Mularoni and Ambassador Bodini for the support that the Republic of San Marino has been offering for several years in favour of UNICEF activities.
The fourth edition of the San Marino UNICEF Awards Dinner was an occasion to underline once again the commitment undertaken by the Republic in the field of promotion and protection of human rights, with particular reference to childrens rights.
