Today, a delegation of the Department of Foreign Affairs met Mrs. Rita Lehmann, official of the Directorate-General for External Relations of the European Commission responsible for Andorra, the Holy See, Monaco and San Marino.
On the occasion, Mrs. Lehmann delivered the hard-copy text of Omnibus Decision no. 1/2010 of the Cooperation Committee EU-San Marino regarding the Customs Union.
The decision summarises all the previous ones made when the Interim Agreement was in force and reiterates its full effectiveness in the context of the current Cooperation and Customs Union Agreement. Moreover, in the text of Omnibus Decision no. 1/2010 new aspects are introduced, including the application of the legislation on the protection of endangered species of wild fauna and flora (CITES), by virtue of which the San Marino territory will be considered from now on a community territory, with a subsequent simplification of the administrative procedures for trade between San Marino and the European Union. The decision sets forth the procedure to implement rules and regulations on the Customs Union in the following fields: common commercial policy, market protection, health, consumer safety and protection, agriculture, food safety, veterinary and phytosanitary sectors.
Finally, the list of Customs offices authorized to perform customs clearance of goods from Third Countries and sent to the Republic of San Marino is extended, as wished by San Marino economic organizations.
During the meeting, the two delegations exchanged their opinions and views on increasing integration of San Marino in the European Union. In this regard, Mrs. Lehmann expressed her willingness to provide the competent bodies of San Marino with information and assistance.
