San Marino towards the European Union: information events on the Association process

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has organized a set of information events to update citizens on the association process with the European Union entitled "San Marino towards the European Union", with the participation of the Directorate for European Affairs of the Department of Foreign Affairs and in collaboration with the Township Councils.

The aim is to inform the public about the most recent developments in the negotiations for a greater European integration of San Marino, which are now at a turning point. The Agreement is expected to be initialled at the beginning of summer 2019. However, as Minister Renzi assured - "it will be initialled only if it is considered satisfactory with respect to the requests and needs of the country". The Association Agreement is a key objective for the Republic, which transcends the interests of individual governments and majorities" - said Minister Renzi - It is a process that has been followed with continuity since 2015".

The first event will take place on the 17th of April at 9 p.m. in the hall of the Township Council of Chiesanuova. The following events will be organized in all Township Councils until the end of May, so as to reach and involve the highest number possible of citizens. During the meetings, which will be attended by Minister Renzi, officials from the European Affairs Directorate and the staff of the Ministry, the state of the art of the Agreement as well as the advantages and disadvantages of an ever urgent choice will be illustrated. These events represent the right opportunity - stressed Mr. Renzi - to combat misinformation and prejudices on an issue of vital importance for San Marino.

The initiative was also created to meet the requests of citizens and bodies that have independently organized minor events to inform the public on European issues.

The Ministry will be pleased to welcome any idea, proposal and useful suggestion on the Association Agreement and wishes to keep open a direct and constant communication channel with anyone interested. For this purpose, a special Facebook account (San Marino towards the European Union) and an Instagram profile (sanmarinoue) have been created, in addition to the existing section of the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (San Marino and the European Union) and the e-mail address info.europa@esteri.sm
