Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs meets General Secretary of the Federation of Trade Unions of Burma in exile

Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Antonella Mularoni, has met today the General Secretary of the Federation of Trade Unions of Burma (FTUB) in exile, Maung Maung, at the Public Palace.
The General Secretary, who was accompanied by CSDL Secretary-General Marco Beccari, thanked our Country for the support expressed within the United Nations with regard to the difficult situation in Myanmar and he said to be very concerned about what is happening in his Country. Indeed, by means of a stratagem of the regime, the opposition leader, the Nobel Peace Prize winner Aung San Suu Kyi has been again put into prison and she is waiting for a new trial. Although Maung Maung underlined how dangerous a regime may be when it is ready to repress the growing protests of Burmese people by using violence, said to be sure that a joint action at an international level could help to solve the problems affecting Myanmar, which first of all needs a constitutional reform to ensure free elections again.
Secretary of State Antonella Mularoni shared the concerns of the San Marino Government about the situation in Burma with the Burmese trade unionist leader. She also expressed her hope for a stronger commitment of the United Nations and ensured the support of the Republic of San Marino in this regard. Though San Marino has no diplomatic relations with the Burmese Government, it will try to raise its voice to support San Suu Kyi’s liberation and the re-establishment of democracy in that Country.
