News European Parliament: negotiating position approved on the proposal for a regulation allowing San Marino access to the single European procurement mechanism for medicines and vaccines 16 September 2021

On 11 November, the European Commission submitted the proposal for a new regulation on serious cross-border threats to health, which did not provide for the access of the Republic of San Marino to the joint procurement mechanism for medicines and vaccines.

Also as a result of the numerous meetings held between the Minister of Foreign Affairs Luca Beccari and some MEPs, and also thanks to the activity carried out within the EU-San Marino Friendship Group, with the amendment of Hon. Moretti, the European Parliament asked the Commission to implement all the necessary measures to include San Marino, Andorra, Monaco and the Vatican City among the States that may access the joint procurement mechanism.

The European Parliament, in its official position approved during the September plenary session, extended the possibility to participate in the joint procurement mechanism for vaccines and medicines also to San Marino.

Also the Council of the European Union has included San Marino, Andorra, Monaco and the Vatican City in its official position in view of the inter-institutional negotiations with the Commission and the European Parliament.
