Today, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Luca Beccari, welcomed in Palazzo Begni, the Prime Minister of the Principality of Liechtenstein, Dr. Daniel Risch, accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Education and Sport, Dominique Hasler, the Secretary General of the Ministry for General Government Affairs and Finance, Mr Simon Biederman and the Secretary General of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, Mr Stephan Jäger, on an official visit to San Marino.
Minister Beccari first met privately with the high representatives of Liechtenstein, and had an exchange of views extended to global scenarios and a discussion on bilateral challenges, mainly at the European context.
Afterwards, the two diplomatic delegations had an enlarged meeting in the presence of the Minister of Finance, Marco Gatti, the Minister of Education and Culture, Teodoro Lonfernini, the Minister of Industry and Sport, Rossano Fabbri and the designated Ambassador of San Marino to the Principality of Liechtenstein Beatrice Simoncini, for a broader examination of the issues relating to the bilateral relationship and the common commitment in multilateral contexts.
It was an opportunity for Minister Beccari to report on the imminent conclusion of the Association Agreement with the European Union, for which, the Principality of Liechtenstein, as member of the European Economic Area (EEA), has expressed its full support. The existing collaboration in the field of sports, the important developments and agreements established in particular in the filed of university and education, as well as the commitment of both countries in the banking and financial sector, were also recalled. During the meeting the active cooperation within the International Monetary Fund, which Liechtenstein has recently joined was mentioned as well as the common desire to share experience and training exchanges in areas of common interests, encouraged by the peculiarities and similarities of the two countries.
“In the framework of the future Association Agreement between San Marino, Andorra and the European Union, the Principality of Liechtenstein is a concrete example for San Marino of how a small but significant country can be integrated into the wider European context. We also have a common vision on the major international foreign policy issues, starting with the strengthening of democracy, respect for human rights and the rule of law, as common pillars of our respective activities within international bodies.”
At the end of the official meetings, both delegations will be received at the Government Building for an official audience by Their Excellencies the Captains Regent, H.E. Francesca Civerchia and H.E, Dalibor Riccardi. Afterwards, the Prime Minister and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Liechtenstein will be awarded with the honour of Knight of Grand Cross of the Equestrian Order of Saint Agatha.
