Minister Beccari has spoken today at the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly
In his speech Minister Beccari addressed numerous issues: such as ongoing conflicts, the role of multilateralism, the climate change and its consequences, the artificial intelligence, the sustainable development and the objectives of Agenda 2030.
In celebrating the 80th anniversary of the United Nations, San Marino reaffirms its commitment to the principles enshrined in the Charter and underlines the importance of the general debate as a moment to revive the spirit of San Francisco. “San Marino reaffirms its commitment to multilateralism, with the United Nations at its centre and in particular in the framework of the General Assembly, as the most representative body of the United Nations on account of its deeply democratic nature. – declared Minister Beccari – We need to revitalise the UN and rebuild trust between its members and all stakeholders, if we want to pursue credible solutions to the global challenges.”
The position of San Marino with regard to ongoing conflicts was also emphasised with reference to the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. San Marino once again condemned Russian aggression and supported the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognised borders. At the same time, San Marino welcomes all international efforts aimed at achieving a global, just and lasting peace, in line with the values of the United Nations Charter, General Assembly resolutions and in compliance with international law.
With regards to the Israeli-Palestinian issue, San Marino unequivocally condemns the terrible terrorist attacks of 7 October and cannot remain silent in the face of impunity, which is sadly becoming normal. San Marino has reiterated its call for an immediate and permanent ceasefire and for full, safe and unimpeded humanitarian access to the civilian population affected, as well as for the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages.
On this occasion, Minister Beccari announced to the international community the formal recognition by the Republic of San Marino of the State of Palestine as a sovereign and independent State, within internationally recognised borders and in compliance with the relevant United Nations resolutions. “The recognition of Palestine is essential for us to reaffirm that peace must be built on justice and equality. San Marino will also continue to support Palestine’s admission as a full member of the United Nations.”
San Marino also expressed deep concern about violence against children, particularly those living in conflict situations and called all armed forces and armed groups to cooperate constructively with the United Nations to define and implement action plans aimed at ending and preventing serious violations against children, in accordance with their obligations under international law.
“Sustainable development must remain high on our agenda. – continued Minister Beccari – the Pact for the Future, adopted last year, is a crucial opportunity to reinvigorate multilateralism and turbocharge the Sustainable Development Goals and Agenda 2030.”
Minister Beccari also underlined the commitment of San Marino to bridging the digital divide and promoting inclusion, through the Global Digital Compact, and expressed strong concern about the use and application of artificial intelligence systems in conflicts.
“The UN80 initiative, launched in March 2025 by Secretary-General Guterres, must be an inclusive reform process, capable to deliver innovative solutions. - concluded Minister Beccari - its purpose is to make the United Nations more efficient, integrated, effective at tackling complex global challenges and adjusted to the financial realities. We believe that this reform’s efforts should preserve the integrity and balance of the three UN pillars on an equal basis and continue to primarily support those most in need and as well as those affected by crises, disasters and armed conflicts.”
