News San Marino recognises the State of Palestine 23 September 2025

23 September 2025

Today, the Congress of State, during its sitting, adopted its own decision, providing for the “recognition by the Republic of San Marino of the State of Palestine as a sovereign and independent State, within internationally recognised borders and in compliance with the relevant United Nations resolutions”.

The decision recalls the formalities adopted in the last period and the spirit which led to the decision of the Government, in particular the principles enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, the Agreement on the establishment of diplomatic relations with the Palestinian National Authority of 1996, the agendas approved by the Great and General Council, the accreditation of the first Palestinian Ambassador in January 2025, the High-level International Conference for the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution held last July and the constant support of San Marino for the recognition of the State of Palestine.

The news was notified by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Luca Beccari, who is the spokesman for the unanimous willingness of the San Marino institutions and community to reaffirm support for the two-state solution, which cannot ignore a sovereign, independent Palestinian State living in peace and mutual recognition of the State of Israel.

By this decision, the Congress of State also authorises Minister Beccari to communicate this recognition to the international community in the context of the work of the 80th United Nations General Assembly, which is currently taking place in New York, thus joining the group of countries that have taken the same position.

"With this recognition - declared the Minister of Foreign Affairs Luca Beccari - San Marino reaffirms and further concretises the position of active neutrality, which has always characterised the Republic's foreign policy. San Marino is a participating state, attentive and not indifferent to the current international geopolitical scenario. The next step will be my speech in the General Assembly on Saturday, followed by the official communication to the relevant authorities of the State of Palestine”.
