The Minister, Luca Beccari, continues his visit in New York by delivering his speech today at the high-level meeting to celebrate and promote the International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons.
In his speech, Minister Beccari reaffirmed the Republic's full support for a world free from nuclear weapons and condemned in the strongest terms any nuclear threat, implicit or explicit, and in respective of circumstances.
He also reaffirmed San Marino’s commitment to support the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) and the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW), two milestones in the pursuit of international peace and security.
“San Marino believes that in such challenging and complex times it is urgent and critical that we all firmly recommit to advance our nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation agenda. - declared Minister Luca Beccari - A peaceful coexistence among nations should not be based on a rhetoric of fear and destruction, but rather on dialogue, cooperation and solidarity, features that have been shaping the identity of my country in its long history”.
In the morning, Minister Beccari and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of São Tomé and Principe, H.E. Gareth Guadalupe signed the Agreement on the establishment of diplomatic relations.
In the margin of the General Assembly, Minister Beccari met the Foreign Ministers of Austria, Cyprus, the Minister of State at the Federal Foreign Office of Germany, and the Prime Minister of Andorra, with whom discussions have developed on the bilateral agenda and the San Marino Association Agreement with the European Union.
